Blog One.... Reality (Draft)

Hello

This is getting ridiculous. TWO assignment posts in ONE day? :O
I'm either spending waaaaaay too much time on these.... or I have too much free time. Either way. I hope you enjoy!

In each blog there will be, an introduction to which idea from the film/book is being presented
This post will cover the topic of 'To what extent are we capable of creating our own reality?' This question will be looked at through discussing the movie/book, Life of Pi.

the philosophical idea will then be explained
The question 'To what extent are we capable of creating our own reailty?' sounds very hard, but it is actually rather simple when explained with an example. Okay, imagine a fat middle aged guy who sits at his computer all day and earns nil. Then, imagine that this fat middle aged guy imagines that he is a hot model. How long do yout think that he can keep believing himself to be a hot model? Maybe. If he truly belives he was a hot model, to himself, he will be that person. However, if he then walks
down the street and smiles at some girls, believing he is a hot male, then I'm not too sure that his own reality will last very long. The point is, that our reality is created through many people, and not just ourselves.

how the film explains this idea will then be explored
The movie, Life of Pie, raises this question through looking at the extent to which Pi, the main character, is capable of creating his own reality. In Life of Pi, the main character, Pi, is shipwrecked in a lifeboat. In the lifeboat, there is Pi, and a tiger whose name is Richard Parker. Throughout the whole of the movie/book, we are left to believe that Richard Parker is real. However, nearing the end of the story, it becomes very confusing. There is a scene, in the movie, in which Pi closes his eyes, and then Richard Parker is nowhere to be found. This leads to more confusion and discussion about whether the tiger was real or not. This therefore raises the question of the extent to which Pi is capable of creating his own reality. Did he create his Richard Parker, or was Richard Parker real?

then we will evaluate how well the film explains the idea through content and presentation
The movie Life of Pi is a brilliant film, partly because of the clever way it addressed this question.. The director managed to make the viewers unsure of whether Richard Parker was real or not. The director did this by making some clever editorial decisions. Firstly, when Pi's ordeal is over, Richard Parker disappears. This raises the question of whether Pi actually created Richard Parker as a way to get through his ordeal or whether Richard Parker was actually real. If Pi created Richard Parker as a way to get through his ordeal then he did create his own reality. Secondly, nearing the end of the book, Pi was interrogated by two Japanese men who were sent to investigate the crash of Pi's ship. During the interrogation, Pi tells the two men his story and the Japanese men don't believe that a TIGER was on board with him. Pi then changes his story to fit the men's expectations. In this way the movie/book addresses the question of whether we can make our own reality because Pi is forced to change his reality to meet the expectations of other people. Think about how the fat guy with glasses in the opening example was also unable to maintain his reality because of the infuence of other people.

I will give my opinion and discuss the idea
The movie does not confirm or denying whether we create our own reality because we never find out whether or not Richard Parker is real. I honestly think that yes we are capable of creating our own reality, however it only happens in solitude. If we think back to the fat guy with glasses, we can see that he can believe he is a hot model as long as no one else is around to break the illusionary reality that he has created. If anyone wants to counter this argument and say 'Oh well, daydreaming is like creating your own little world, but you can daydream even when you're with other people'.
I don't care, said to the statement above^^^
Well, then yes... But in you're daydream, no DURING your daydream, you are quite solitary. You're in YOUR OWN LITTLE WORLD. Dreaming. In the daytime. So I think that it can only happen in times where you are in solitude. But that's just me. Go have your little thoughts about daydreaming, probably daydream about daydreaming...

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed reading my view on the first topic of discussion in Life of Pi Blog-and-Tell, and I shall see you next time!

Peace out Girl Scouts

Ps, if this post has been too simple for you and you were expecting something more mind blowing, then figure this out for yourself. When being interrogated about his shipwreck Pi said:

'If you took the city of Tokyo and turned it upside down and shook it you would be amazed at the animals that fall out: badgers, wolves, boa constrictors, crocodiles, ostriches, baboons, capybaras, wild boars, leopards, manatees, ruminants, in untold numbers. There is no doubt in my mind that that feral giraffes and feral hippos have been living in Tokyo for generations without seeing a soul'.

I'll give you a hint: do you need to see something to believe it is real or can you create your own reality by making something real even if you can't physically see it.

BTW, I told you the tiger was CG!!!

Okay... Let's Start Here...

Hello. And welcome..... to.. a new sort of blogging method..

Hahah, not really. From this point on (I know I've said this many many times now) this post here will mark the OFFICIAL start of my English assignment. Once again, as repeated many a times before, you have the option to not read these next few... possibly, five I think, posts as they might (will) be very boring. Have fun~~~~..... Not reading my blog for a short while. Keep count of how many posts I do though. I will be reposting again after my assignment is done :D.

Rationale

Rationale - The Life of Pi was chosen as the subject matter for this creative response. A blog was chosen as the method through which to represent the philosophical ideas of the movie/book.

Reason for choosing a blog
The reason a blog was chosen was because of the challenge of conveying difficult information to the audience that a blog presented. Difficult ideas are often rejected by some readers on the basis that they require too much thought. The use of a blog therefore allowed the challenge of trying to create a work that could reverse this trend. Through the use of an informal style and an informal style of media the aim is to bring philosophical ideas to normal people, ideas that they would not usually be interested in trying to understand.
Another reason for using a blog was to show people who use the internet that instead of dismissing a film without thought, it is possible to understand and analyse movies/books. On the internet people tend to dismiss or praise a movie/book without any evidence. We hope to present an example that other people can follow of critically assessing movie/books based on detailed explorations of their content and ideas.

Structure
In this chain of blogs, there will be a total of 4 blog posts, excluding the rationale. In each blog post one philosophical idea from the movie/book, Life of Pi, will be discussed. The reason for choosing one blog post per idea is to not confuse the audience. Each blog will follow the same basic structure. In each blog there will be, an introduction to which idea from the movie/book is being presented, the philosophical idea will then be explained, how the movie/book explains this idea will then be explored, then we will evaluate how well the movie/book explains the idea through content and presentation and I will give my opinion and discuss the idea. To present the philosophical ideas in a way that can appeal to ordinary people simple example, diagrams, and simple language will be used to present the ideas in an accessible way, free from the normal academic style which turns off most people from philosophical subjects.

The blogs will be presented in the following order:

Blog One will cover the topic 'To what extent are we capable of creating our own reality?'

Blog Two will be about 'Religion and science- do religion and science share the same truth in that they are both belief systems created by humans which become true because people believe they are true?'

Blog Three will answer the question 'Do we live in our own reality or do we change our reality to meet others expectations of other people?'

And Blog Four will be an evaluation of the director's ability based on how well the film present the complicated ideas that were presented in the book.

I hope you have a fun time reading this!

I Noticed... T.T

Sooo....

Just a really quick notice....

I just noticed that hardly anyone comes to read this blog anymore... Is the Jae blog craze over now???? -.-;

T.T
I Hope Not

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND I'm BACK!!!

Come AT me! I AM BACK!!! WITH!!! SOMETHING!! ABSOLUTELY BORING......

Yup...

So Hello, everybody, Mr Lee Is back with absolutely nothing interesting to tell you... -.-;
I am... This is..... Ummm..... My English... Assignment.... (BOOOOOORING)

So, Wat this is is an introduction to my to be coming English assignment, which is a blog, on Life of PI.
I have no reason to start a new blog as this one is already pretty old, and I rather want to start up blogging again, so this would be a good come back for my blog.

One Thing you should know though, Ms Patel...

This here, is MY blog. You can kind of think it like a region. This is where I most feel comfortable writing, and also just like a god. Here, I rule everything! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. Anyways. My style of writing will be VERY different to many other bloggers. I might swear, or make extremely bad jokes, rant and rage, and mostly go off topic a lot. But This is MY style of Writing. It's Just how I write, and is how I am going to write my Creative response. Stupidly, with a bit of sensible mixed in. Ranting and Raging, with the occasional well-behaved philosophical debate.

GL HF!! :D

Okay. So. For the rest of the class who reads this blog, the next few days of Blogging will be very boring days of philosophy. So I can understand if you completely disregard these next few blog posts. I don't really care either, this is just an assignment ;). I won't try to brag, but I do think that even these sort of topics are wroth discussing and reading my blog for though ;) so if you're interested, please go ahead and read on.

This blog post will be sort of like a rationale, so yes, I don't mind if you don't read THIS part :P.

In these next few blogs, I will talk about the ideas behind "Life of PI" and discuss the ideas of philosophy behind it.I will also attempt to enlighten you about my view on the book, how I interpreted it, and in what way I expressed it.

First off, I expressed this kind of boring stuff in a blog. Why? I have no clue. It's just because most of the other things I found had absolutely no appeal to me, nor did I have the talents for them. So I was rather forced (due to my limited abilities) to sit back on my haunches, and write lazily at my beloved computer. It's not such a bad thing, just I'd really rather do something a bit more creative than a blog, like an image, o maybe animation. I would LOVE to do many different kinds of things, (Because that's just who I am, different, and then indifferent to your weird looks you give me). In fact, I'm so much of a nerd, that, if I could, I would probably make a game on that kind of stuff (Like an rpg, just not too intricately). Buuuuuuuuut of course as now stated many times, I don't have the abilities to do that. I'm just some weird year ten kid, who blogs, would prefer to start a youtube channel, vlog and play games. You really can't expect much from somebody like that. :P

How I interpreted it?
Okay first of all, let's get something straight. I HATED the philosophical part of that book. Parts of i interested me, but some parts just made me want to spin around screaming 'HALLELUJAH!" and shoot myself in the head. I don't like the idea of 'INFINITE', or 'SPACE AND TIME CONTINUUM" and all that jazz. I just CAN'T wrap my head around most of those things. Now I also find myself in a very awkward position because of it. Lot's of people like philosophical debates. So i'm just there, standing there like a moron, and just saying 'Yep.... Yup... I hear ya man... Yeah totally!" and going along with it. And then suddenly "CLICK?!" Something seems wrong to me and I ask (What I think is on of the) Most OBVIOUS questions that should be asked. And So suddenly there I am, contributing to some debate I have no clue about. AND THEN PEOPLE SUDDENLY GO BOOM! HOLEE NUTCRACKERS! WHAT THE HELL IS THIS??? THIS GUY CAN HAVE A PHILOSOPHICAL DEBATE?? OMG WHAT DID HE JUST SAY???? Aaaaaaand then I'm kinda just there again, not half listening to the answer to my 'philosophical' question. As You can tell, I get very easily bored. So I try to do other things to distract myself from the fact that I seem to be of lower intelligence than most of the people I hang around and talk to, but.... eh. You can't have everything

-.-;
