The way in which the two fought was like watching a tango comprised of deadly blades. The sunlight reflected off of the flashing swords to blind the occasional onlooker, usually resulting in their ever so humiliating death. All around the two swordsmen the battle raged on, as bloody as ever, and as fierce as ever. There were shouts and the sound metal against metal, sword against scythe, gauntlets against staves, guns against mechanized armour. The sun was high, the time almost being noon . Sol grunted with the effort of blocking his foe’s blow, staggering back several feet. Evernight leapt into the air, pirouetting, and then crashed down with an almighty force onto Sol. Her talon-tipped gauntlets pounded down on his scythe, and Sol saw Equilibrium (The name of Sol's scythe, for those who don't know, Solomon is a character of a book I wish to write, and he was a double-bladed scythe named Equilibrium for it's unique ability to reduce the amount of energy spent in each movement of an attack or block, and convert it into more strength behind the blow or the block. This allows Sol to afflict blows with inhuman strength with much less effort. Yup.) Anyways, back to the excerpt. and Sol saw Equilibrium start to chip away every time she hit the scythe. Sol made the mistake of looking up into Evernight's face again, and his vision immediately started to black out, giving him tunnel vision. He stumbled away, with Evernight laughing, jumping off of him like a feline grown too large. His vision slowly returned to him as he saw Evernight running to him, her next blow already poised.
“Shit!” Sol swore as he turned and ran "Looking at her face while we battle probably isn't the best recipe for a longer lifespan.”
A taunting voice came up from behind him as he ran, "Sol, are you running away from our fight again? You know running away and dying isn't an honourable death!" Evernight taunted.
Yeah well if I'm dead I don't think honour will really matter too greatly to me, Sol thought angrily as tilted sharply to the right to avoid an incoming attack from a swordsman, quickly cutting him down after dodging the blow.
"So-ol! I'm catching up!" came the once more annoying taunting voice of Evernight.
Sol abruptly stopped running and turned around at the same time, Equilibrium up and ready to defend him, expecting another staggering blow. Instead he got Evernight whispering in his ear saying
"Behind you Sol!".
Evernight ran her clawed gauntlets across Sol chest, raking him from his top right shoulder to his left hip, just as he was turning around. Sol's combat shirt tore apart like wet paper, and there was an explosive pain registering in his mind as he fell.
"Damn" Sol said as he laid, bleeding on the ground with Equilibrium still clutched in his hand. It was a fatal blow, Sol knew that much. However, he still couldn't believe how easily he had fallen. Evernight strode away from him, laughing and licking her gauntlets, fresh with blood. In one blow, Corporal of the Army of North Korea had felled the great Sol Olympia, the one destined to be the one to finally end the war of Korea.
Somewhere in the distance, Sol could hear Delilah and Kyle screaming his name, over and over again, like an annoying siren. Sol smiled as he coughed up his life’s essence onto the ground.
God damn Kyle and Delilah are annoying he thought as he smiled, lying on the cold ground of the bloody battlefield. I'll see you later guys...
On the 20th of May, in the Battle for Valience, Sol Olympia died, Killed in Action.
